Our webcam has an autoiris feature that protects the delicate CCD from direct sunlight. During the winter months the sun is low enough to activate the autoiris closure from about 1PM on. That is why the image may appear dark on sunny days. Try to view the elephant seals between 9am and noon Pacific Standard Time during the winter. For technical information on the installation contact Jotham Fisher-Smith.

The images transmitted by the RadioCam have been archived since April 1999. The archive is presently contains over 170,000 images of the elephant seal rookery collected at roughly ten minute intervals. For information on the archive and educational materials contact Henrik Kibak. For technical questions on the solar-powered wireless camera network contact Jotham Fisher-Smith.
